Gripe of the Day- Tunics

Okay- so my gripe of the day for today are clothes labeled as "tunics". Occassionally I have been known to wear leggings (okay- three times my sophomore year and once my junior year) but none the less I own some. I bought a shirt called a "tunic" at Target the other day. Since the purchase I have seen 3 other people wearing it (in White). One wore it as a dress, one wore it with leggins, and one wore it with skinny jeans. My question- is a tunic a dress, shirt, or a combo of both? This said tunic does not look good with leggins on me, and you say- "well, then why did you buy it?" and I answer back to that- I have no flippin' clue...It was a smart purchase at the time. Maybe I should give up the dream and realize- tunics are a bad life decision for my wardrobe. Until then- I'll hang it next to the other three items labeled "tunic" on the tag.
